Best Thermal Carafe Drip Coffee Maker
Zojirushi EC-BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Drip Coffee Maker
![]() |
If you’re looking for a drip coffee maker that will brew the coffee directly into a thermal carafe, this is the one to get! Both the coffee maker and the carafe are good quality products.
The carafe is of stainless steel, which is an absolute must in a carafe if you ask me. Not only does it look totally sweet, it’s also practically impossible to break (unlike glass!), and it does an amazing job of keeping the coffee warm. Since the carafe is thermal, it means you don’t need to keep it warm with another heat source, that baby just keeps it warm all by itself like magic (ok calling it magic is obviously overkill, but it’s nice)
That leads us nicely to the other advantage of a carafe like this over a glass pot is that it eliminates the “burnt” flavor you get with it when you keep it heated. Which can be a problem when you don’t immediately drink all the coffee you brew while it’s fresh. This coffee maker creates coffee like the big boys – the coffee shops! They eliminate this problem just like this – they brew them directly into large thermal pots. If you want to be just like them, but don’t want to brew such ridiculous quantities at once, this is the way to go!
Now if you’re reading this right after my Gevalia coffee deal review in the “Best Value” category, it’s tempting to go “WOW I gotta get me this carafe coffee maker instead! Gevalia doesn’t brew the coffee directly into the carafe, this means I’ll get the burnt taste! I can’t allow that to happen! Zojirushi for the win!” Well to be fair though, the disadvantage with a coffee maker like this is the price. When I’m writing this, the price is $84.95 at Amazon. Compare that to the $22.95 Gevalia set! Keep in mind that all you have to do to avoid the “burnt” taste with the Gevalia set is to immediately pour the fresh coffee into the stainless steel carafe that comes with it. That’s it!
If you ask me, the slight increase in convenience you get from buying a carafe coffee maker like this compared to the Gevalia kit does not make up for the huge price difference! But that’s a matter of taste of course, so if you got the money to burn and will spare no expenses for this convenience, then this is the coffee maker for you!
